So I am back from the whirlwind that was New York Fashion Week. I spent three weeks in my favourite place in the world. I shot runway, street style, model portfolios and let’s be honest ate my way through my favourite bakery’s and danced many, many nights away.
While I’ve been back for two weeks now, it doesn’t feel like
it on the account I spent my first week lying down and resting a severely
sprained foot. I am currently bound to
sneakers and crutches.
I'm feeling less than glamorous at the moments, so this prompted me to flash back to Fashion Week in NYC to one of my favourite outfits.
When I travel I have a tradition of buying a boss outfit
(and a few key staple items). Yes, it sounds crazy, and I get the comment “shop
when your overseas” all the time. However, when travelling to one of the fashion capitals of the world I can’t go looking like a slob! I like to put my
best foot forward.
As a stylist I also look for statement pieces and
versatility, and because I am on a budget trying to save I naturally went to my
fav shopping haunt Canberra Outlet Centre.
TK Maxx was my first stop where I picked up this classic
silver Oroton clutch. Justifications for the purchase are:
1. It’s leather.
2. It’s on sale.
3. It’s silver, thus almost goes with anything I wear.
4. It has a cross over strap perfect for nights out dancing
while in NYC.
5. It has internal zip pockets to keep my valuables safe.
SOLD!
I also recently shot the Spring Summer campaign for Canberra
Outlet and Sofia styled our model Zoe with a gorgeous mesh dress from Veronika Maine (available from the Cue store at the centre). Having seen it on Zoe I knew this was the pinnacle piece for
my “Deejay does NYC look”.
Sofia styled it as a sports luxe look, but I wanted to do
something different with it.

I paired it back with a printed skirt for some dimension and
a pair of heels from my wardrobe. I'm also loving the simplicity of
black and white at the moment.
Heel selection when travelling is important to me. I needed a shoe
that would go with most outfits (so that’s usually a nude, black or metallic)
and something I can walk in with without breaking my ankle (irony I sprained my ankle in sneakers).
Add some statement earrings and voila you get my very fun NYC look.
Oh did I mention that I also buy items I will wear again! I’m
actually planning on wearing the mesh dress layered over cigarette pants and a
singlet to work with a statement belt and heels when my ankle is better! Or
maybe even over a pair of straight jeans (need to test this to see if it will look good).
