80/20 is 10/10

It is 8:23 on a Friday morning and the place is hopping, the aroma of coffee floating through the air. Apparently it isn’t super busy according to the lovely manager Tihana, but from where I’m sitting I can barely see a free seat, everyone cramming inside to avoid the morning chill. The staff are all friendly and bubbly, with the service being very quick. The cafe offers a smooth monochrome interior with rose gold touches here and there, such as on the embroidered denim cushions which adorn every seat (comfy and stylish).

Natural light streams through the windows which surround the cafe, lighting further accentuated with small lightbulbs inside. Outdoor seating is an option with with super cute plants framing the area. There is an overall, warm and homey feeling.

The presentation of the two dishes that I ate were exceptional. The Breakfast Salad and The Salad both a bold array of colour and flavours. The Breakfast Salad boasts different colours and textures. All of the ingredients are fresh. The egg is warm and smooth, the pumpkin and broccoli deliciously tender. The Salad Bowl offered a beetroot cauliflower which was unique to 80/20 as they created it themselves. It is a rainbow bowl of goodness, with all of the different elements complementing each other so well, those elements being pumpkin, spinach and been sprouts to name a few.

What makes the even more amazing is the amazing manager Tihana. She is so obviously passionate about the cafe and that passion is palpable. She is very much involved in every aspect of the business which makes her very knowledgeable. She is attentive to her staff which is so inspiring to see. She even went out of her way to sit with me when I ate and put the rest of my meal in a takeaway container for me.

Both dishes made me feel re-energised, not at all fatigued or sluggish. I was full in the most perfect way possible, completely satisfied. They offer the kind of dishes that you would love to make at home but don’t have the time and/or the ingredients to. If you’re looking to have the perfect start to your day, go to 80/20 and leave feeling 10/10.

WHO WHAT WEAR - Luxe for less - The knitted dress

Another luxe for less post! Yes you guessed it another fabulous outfit from TK Maxx at the Canberra outlet.

This time Janette let me style her for a day at work followed by dinner. The prerequisite was to include her suede over the knee boots into the look.

With spring approaching I opted for pieces that would carry her through to the next season.

The first item is a vegan leather cropped jacket that had a gorgeous lace detail at the back. The style is incredibly feminine with the waterfall collar and lace. It used to be $159.00 and we picked up for $79.95.

Come spring summer this jacket would be great worn with a simple tank and some jeans.

The next piece I choose was a sleeveless knit dress. Perfect for layering with a long sleeve top while it is still cool and it looks great with Jan’s boots.

When it gets warmer wear the dress on it’s own and add some killer black pumps.

Now you all might be thinking this is a bit drab for Jan’s usual style. Jan is often seen in colours and prints so to appeal to her native style I brought something bright into the outfit.

This AHQ tote in red is a great colour pop.

This is actually a great styling tip for those who feel like they are stuck in black and can’t break the cycle. Adding a pop of colour via bags or shoes is a great way to ease yourself into colour.

Hope you liked my posts on luxe shopping at TK Maxx!

WHO WHAT WEAR - Scifi fashionista

Anne from Braddon was spotted on the Kingston Foreshore by  our resident photographer/editor Deejay (We Are Found).
Her unique style is inspired by Y2K, drawing on trends between the late ’90s and early ’00s – for Anne, this was a time of optimism and when fashion was colourful.
Anne has a passion for op-shopping and finding unique pieces for her wardrobe.
‘I actually prefer to shop online as it gives me the ability to easily compare items,’ says Anne.
‘I would have to say a lot of my fashion inspiration is drawn from sci-fi films and I absolutely love Trinity’s style in the Matrix.’

You will most likely find Anne wearing mesh (all year round) and a bold lipstick.

‘The one fashion item I couldn’t live without is my lipstick. I love Chi Chi – a brand that is often under-rated. The pigment is awesome and it provides an even matte coverage.’

Draped in diamonds with Plumery

Last weekend I attended the Plumery launch in style with high tea the Hyatt Hotel Canberra.

I was blown away by the exquisite jewels, diamonds everywhere! Whether it’s an engagement, birthday, milestone or a special occasion Plumery will have the right piece for you.
The ring on the left is worth half-a-million dollars! Holy smokes!

The sparkle from the diamonds lit up my eyes! I got to try on a half-a-million dollar ring – the show stopper! Never have I ever, been that close to something so small worth half-a-million dollars.

Danielle Klar, with an eye for detail and a Dr! She is one of those inspiring women who has had many careers in her life. We loved listening to her speak about her journey and how she woke up one day and needed to make jewellery, it came from within her.

Microdermabrasion - Macro results - Laser Clinics Australia Canberra Centre

Real talk. As a woman with a European heritage growing up meant that I fast became best friends with Nad’s (wax hair removal). As technology improved the revolution of laser hair removal hit the market, Laser Clinics was born and my life was changed forever.
I owe my scar free (and hair free) underarm and bikini to Laser Clinic Canberra Centre. You might think I am being a bit dramatic but growing up I was very self-conscious. I would not lift my arm up in tanks for fear that people would see the purple ingrown welts that existed on my underarm, not to mention only wearing a bikini with board shorts or a sarong to hide my scars. It didn’t matter if I shaved or waxed I simply was not smooth or scar free.
With my big sister guiding me I started visiting Laser Clinics in the city for hair removal. The treatments reduced my hair to pretty much nothing (which is amazing considering my background) and more importantly resurfaced my skin. I was no longer embarrassed or self-conscious.
Having had success with them before I have now turned to Laser Clinic Canberra City for my next beauty treatment.

MICRODERMABRASION

It’s no secret I’ve hit the big 3-0 mark and with that comes aging.  My skin is just not as supple as it used to be. Skin rejuvenation just slows down.
I booked a consult to see if microdermabrasion would be suitable for me. I had heard that that microdermabrasion could aid in minimizing fine lines and help with my dry-as Canberra winter skin. I was curious.
I will admit I was a bit apprehensive (having done no real research) I was worried that microdermabrasion was abrasive, that it would hurt and require down time.
After having a consult with Bec, one of their resident skin specialists with over 10 years experience in beauty I realised how little I actually knew about it.
Bec made me feel comfortable enough to ask all the questions that I had.
She helped me understand that while I might be following the right beauty steps for my face, the products that I was using are not able to penetrate my skin deep enough due to a build-up of dead skin.
After asking about my lifestyle, current beauty regime and products Bec was able to tailor a five 5 step microdermabrasion to my skin.
We identified my skin concerns to be:
  • Early signs of ageing
  • Dryness of the skin (even after exfoliating and using a day and night moisturiser).

‘Microdermabrasion is often referred to the lunch time facial because it’s a treatment you literally can do in your lunch break and there is generally no down time needed ,’ said Bec.
‘The treatment will remove the dead skin cells on your surface allowing the healthy skin to shine through and encourages new cells to produce.’
The lyrics shine bright light a diamond came to mind so I proceeded with the treatment.

What I got

I was treated to a customs five step programme including:
My customisation included a multivitamin mask to help feed my new skins cells invigorated by the exfoliation process.
The cleanse
What happens during microdermabrasion
The multivitamin mask (so shinny)
LED treatment

What does it feel like?

For me the microdermabrasion felt much like a facial with a little bit of pressure. It was rather relaxing. You will have a moment where you think, is this even doing anything.

Bec seemed to have read my mind and showed me the filter that collects all the dry skin. I would post it but I don't want to gross you out so I’ll leave it offline. It’s both cool and gross to see how much dead skin actually gets removed from your face.

When I had one of the masks on my face it had a slight tingling feeling but nothing to worry about.
My favourite part of the treatment was the LED light. The warmth from the light almost put me to sleep. Queue an awkward leg jerk from me and I was back present in the room.

The results

Overall I loved it (and booked another 3 treatments). I walked out of the place touching my skin not recognising how smooth it felt and I wasn’t red like a beetroot (something that I thought would happen). I was smooth and glowing.
Post treatment

Over the next few days my skin developed an awesome glow. Below is an image with me with no makeup after 72 hours from the treatment.
(72hours later excuse me cropping my friend out)
I also noticed that after the treatment once I used my regular cleanser and moisturiser my skin felt softer. The product was actually penetrating better.
Overall I think my most favourite change was when I put on makeup. Prior to the treatment I would end up with a cakey dry bits on my t-section. My skin is better and the makeup has greater coverage without the dryness.

Why invest?

Yes, getting a microdermabrasion costs money but in the long term is helps you save. Your skin will shine and the surface becomes smoother, meaning you actually need to use less beauty products.
I also like feeling beautiful without makeup. This is very important to me (this is actually  a whole other back story to growing up with acne and going on two rounds of Roaccutane). Wearing no makeup and being comfortable and confident is a liberating feeling (and posting it for all of you to see).

Cons:

I had two tiny pimples crop up but they healed very quickly. This can be a minor side effect but it’s apart of the process.

Pros:

  • No preparation needed
  • No down time
  • It’s fast (under 30 min)
  • It’s relaxing
  • Results within a few days
  • You will walk around saying touch my skin
  • Stimulates new cell development

Costs:

A five step microdermabrasion is $89 but your first laser or skin treatment is half price.
If your lucky you can also get great deals during promotions ( I got my next three at 40% off).

Treatments:

For optimal results Bec recommended that I have 4-6 treatmements. I’m happy to make this investment in my skin. Let’s bring on the shine!

Make your appointment:

I had my treatment from Bec and also a post consult with Cassandra. Both girls were lovely and very knowledgeable.
