Yoga Big Day Out

As much as I wanted to, I did no Namast’ay in bed this weekend.
Instead I did something amazing. I did something for myself.

On Sunday I attended Yoga Big Day Out at the Boat House Canberra hosted by Wild Sage Wellbeing.  Initially I was invited to be there to exhibit my We Are Found Active tights to the fellow yogis attending, but I also got to participate in the days events.

After completing the day and meeting some amazing people I can truly say with hand on heart I would recommend a yoga retreat as a must for anyone. I’ve recently come back from the hustle and bustle of New York so spending a day to myself was a great way to re-center my focus and look inwardly and recharge.

I would also like to add, as much as I would like to think I am awesome at  yoga I am not a yogi. I am living proof that retreat is not only for people who can bend themselves like a traditional pretzel, a yoga retreat is suitable for all levels.

The day was indeed a BIG day. I completed two yoga sessions, one with Odona from Yoga Canberra at Nishi and another intensive session with Amanda from Radiant energy.

After morning tea and lunch, which mind you is amazing and I am seriously considering going vegetarian because it was that good… I was lead into a mediation by Ramone.

My favorite part of the day was the guided shamanic breath work and deep healing sounds by Matt Omg.

I’m not even sure how to explain what I experienced in this session. I essentially fell into a deep meditative state  that included some seismic shifts in my energy. My chest seemed like it wanted to explode (in a good way). I  woke up from that feeling like a different person.

So the day was essentially perfect, great company, amazing food and nourishment for both the body and soul.  The boat house also boasts the perfect setting for such an event with the picturesque lake in the background.

I also managed to steal Ramone Bisset from Wild Sage Wellbeing for a few moments to chat about her event, how it started and the intention

Q&A with Ramone

Q When did you first start Yoga big day out?
A  The annual Yoga big day out started 7 years ago with myself and three other yoga teachers. Jerome (a yogi) lived out on Cuppacunbalong Homestead. Jerome recognized the beauty of the setting and had the idea to host a yoga retreat at the homestead. So myself and a few others collaborated to organize the first ever retreat. Since then the venue has changed and the retreat has become an annual event.

Q Why did you create the retreat?
A  We wanted to create a retreat that was accessible to most people. A one day retreat is often much easier to commit to a week long retreat.  The idea was also to take people away from the urban settings and into nature to really connect.

Q What is the intention of the retreat?
A The retreat has evolved over the years but the core intention remains the same.. It aligns with my business motto, for people to get out there to be wild, be wise , be well.

My aim is  for participants to leave feeling relaxed, nourished and recharged. It’s an opportunity for them to tap back into their sense of wellness which helps give them stability and balance.

Ramone is also hosting a number of international yoga retreats, with Sri Lanka scheduled for April, Bali in July and Tuscany in September. Click on the links above if you are curious.
