Mercedes Benz - Black Opal Stakes cocktail party

Who doesn't love a cocktail party in the in the middle of the week?! Especially when we are gearing up for the Mercedes Benz Black Opal Stakes race day at Thoroughbred Park on Sunday 5 March. We are so excited to pull together our looks for the races and see all the amazing fashion and head wear on display.

In the lead up to the races we were treated to an exclusive cocktail party to celebrate Mercedes Benz Black Opal Stakes and everything the race day has to offer. The event was held at the Mercedes Benz show room which made for a luxurious setting and made us fall in love with the new models on show.

We were lucky enough to be dressed by Mussen boutique who's current collection offers so many options for your next event and of course for Black Opal Stakes on Sunday. This year's Fashions on the Field has some amazing prices on offer and is expected to showcase some of Canberra's most stylish fashionistas.

Canberra Racing Ambassador and Fashions on the Field Judge Kate Speldewinde is excited to be judging again this year for the third year running.

"For Autumn race wear we are expecting to see heavier fabrics such as felt and leather" says Kate.

"Lots of colour and texture and I would love to see classic millenary such as Christine Waring, Sovata, Cynthia Jones-Bryson. And as always following classic racewear guidelines such as over the knee hem, covered shoulders and appropriate necklines".
You can find the Canberra racing guidelines on the Thoroughbred Park website.

You can purchase your tickets to the Mercedes Benz Black Opal Stakes via and head into Mussen or visit their website

How to get the right colour foundation all year round

So summer rolls around and you’re getting a little sun because you’re actually going outdoors and despite wearing sunscreen, a little extra colour has developed on your face.

Then it’s winter and the heater is on and you’re staying inside a whole lot more, so there goes that lovely bit of golden glow you once had.

The super important (slight exaggeration) question now is what you do when you can’t afford a foundation for every season?

Perhaps you’ve never actually found one that truly matches your skin colour perfectly.

Well that is a first world problem of the past with a product available to change the colour of your foundation.

They’re drops you add to your foundation – one to lighten and one to darken.
Australia have their matchmaker shade adjusting drops that “transform a nearly right foundation into Mr Right to create your perfect foundation match” so “no more stressing over finding your perfect foundation shade.”

The Body Shop has come out with shade adjusting drops and here’s how they do their thing.

The white and pink pigments in the lightening drops neutralise yellow and the black and red pigments will darken your foundation, giving it a bit more depth.

The Body Shop recommends one drop to change the colour by half a shade.
This is not an exact science so will require some trial and error to work out how many drops you need to get the colour right.

Once you’ve figured it out though, there’ll be no going back.

These drops are not made for powder foundations, so stick to using it with a liquid foundation only.

This product was used at Fashfest – Canberra’s premier fashion event – and no doubt backstage at plenty of others.

With so many models and so many different skin colours, this is a handy little makeup artist trick, to make everyone fit for the catwalk.

Who What Wear - Classic Man NYC

Our girl Deejay is in New York for fashion week and before the glitz and glamour have even started style inspo is everywhere as she snapped McNeil on the streets.

This gentleman says, “I’m an old soul. I draw inspiration from African-American fashion from the ’40s to the ’60s, and mix it with this millennium’s style.”

McNeil prefers to save and buy a number of items in one hit. His favourite stores are the thrift shops in Union Square.

Oh My! On-Demand Desserts Launch in Canberra

That’s right ladies! You heard correctly The Sugar Deli is here to fulfill all your sweet dreams (literally).

Launching today, The Sugar Deli is a website – first of its kind in Canberra where you can order a range of freshly baked desserts and have them delivered to your front door.

The self-titled ‘digital dessert parlour’ is an online platform where you can purchase a selection of unique treats such as Twinkie Candy Dogs, Marshmallow Sandwiches, Caramel & White Chocolate Pretzel Cookies, Nutella Pop Tarts… just to name a few! Are you drooling yet?

The digital dessert parlour is based in Kingston and was founded by the brilliant Renee Douros, who also founded HOORAY! Magazine and flower bar and school The Floral Society, says she came up with the online, on-demand concept, while pregnant and inspired by her own laziness (#legend!)

“It was the middle of summer; I was in my third trimester and I couldn’t move”, says Renee.

“I would always whinge to my partner about my sweet cravings and make him go out after a full day of work, and hunt down all of the desserts I wanted…”  “I kept thinking to myself, WHY doesn’t anyone provide this service in Canberra? And thus, the concept for The Sugar Deli was born.

And we are so glad it’s here!

We dare you to check out the website and not purchase at least one of the delicious treats on offer. We certainly cannot resist!

The Sugar Deli opens from 9am-9pm, Monday-Friday, delivering to Canberra and Queanbeyan. Customers can order their selection of sweets via

The Only One - Rimmel

We are loving this mix of creamy vs velvety textured lipstick. Once again the lipstick revolution continues. Rimmel London’s. The Only 1 Lipstick goes MATTE. Long-lasting, non-drying colour, with a stylish velvety matte finish. From our point of view The Only 1 Matte Lipstick has it ALL.

The lipstick is comfortable to swipe on, it’s easy to control and I even find it moisturising. It doesn’t drag or skip on your lips. The colour range is broad from purple hues to barely nudes. We think you will love the lightweight sensation and the colour pigment.
For one of our lucky readers we are giving away 3 of Rimmel London’s The Only One Matte Lipsticks.
1. Follow @thefashionvaultau on Instagram
2. Tag someone that you know would wear the lipstick
