Having just had a week in LA assisting styling on an amazing
project, street stalk all the latest trends hitting the streets of LA.
An obvious trend in Cali is their love for denim. Skirts,
shorts, jeans, you name it and they probably have it in their wardrobe. I love
the carefree styling LA brings, so effortless and chic in everything they do.
A few labels that come to
mind when I think of LA are:
- Free People
- Anine Bing
- Vetements - especially for their denim
- The Kooples - for that rocker chick inside you
- Acne - for their boots
- American Apparel
- Rachel Zoe
- Zagid & Voltaire
Jeans, white tee and boots or cute flowy sundress are a classic
example of the typical Cali girl. By simply adding a leather jacket to the mix,
giving it that little bit of attitude, you've got your Friday night look done
and dusted.
My favourite place for
such pieces is Anine Bing. She does great staples for any occasion and has the
best leather jacket range around. Other options are also the various vintage
shops along Melrose Drive, where you're sure to find a fashionable treat.
A new trend to hit the streets not just in LA but also New York
is the oriental bomber jacket.
I found a great high street version from a on Fairfax called Dope. It definitely draws inspiration from the runway pieces without the crazy
price tag on the side of course. This bomber would definitely give your outfit that extra swag.
Overall LA fashion is great
for keeping to the basics (simple tee, jeans etc) with their added touches of
attitude here and there through biker boots or leather jackets. So if in doubt
stick to the classics and you'll never go wrong.
Can’t wait to go back.
