5 ways to wear denim on denim

Want to try this trend but not sure how to wear it? Avoid looking like the Justin and Britney pairing in the early 2000’s (yikes!) with these ideas and tips to perfect your double denim look.

1. The classic. The classic look entails the perfect pair of blue denim skinny jeans (plain, faded or semi-ripped, your choice!) and a loose denim button down shirt just slightly off tone to the jeans. Tuck the shirt in for a pulled together look or loosely tuck the shirt in for a causal street style feel.
2. Break it up. This look requires your favourite pair of blue skinny jeans teamed with a loose button down shirt/tee (plain or patterned). Add a classic denim jacket to loosely pop over your shoulder. If it gets too hot in this summer heat, tie the jacket around your waist for that street style vibe. Don’t forget your sunnies to top it all off.
3. To knot or not knot. Pair a high waisted denim skirt with a denim shirt of your choice and knot it at your waist. This look accentuates your waist to hip ratio and not to mention adds a sexy feel to your summer outfit. To enhance the glamour add a pair of nude or black pumps and you’re on our way!
4. White on denim. Team your denim shirt with a classic pair of white jeans (skinny, ripped or flared) for a crisp look, on any day. Add a black or tan belt and accessories to add more structure to the outfit. The perfect Sunday brunch look.
5. Feminine denim. Another classic look to try is the denim shirt teamed with a high waisted detailed, denim skirt. Whether it's a denim skirt with a slit across the front ala Olivia Palermo or a classic button down denim skirt (how very chic) this look is simple yet elegant. Make sure the skirt is a just above the knees or slightly longer for a classy look.
A few extra tips.
  • Try to always loosely roll up your sleeves for flattering and chic vibe.
  • Avoid that overboard look from the past 3 decades by choosing denim that’s slightly off tone from each other piece.
  • Glam up any look by adding a statement necklace just under the collar to peep through on your neckline.
Have fun, you know what you like just look in the mirror when you head out the door and know that you can rock this!
