Hair trend - winter 2015

Disheveled updos:
Photo from Xpressmag

As winter approaches women are settling back to their comfortable carefree hair. Lately we are seeing disheveled undone styling from boho waves to carefree updos.

This was evident at this year's Sydney Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week with hair styles having an undone look. Loose braids feature heavily as part of this new trend to mix up textures and add interest.

Twists are also a great way to add some interest into these styles and even more texture.

Tip You're It is a new kids boutique to pop up in Braddon. Owners, Trevor and Che add personality and colour to Braddons' hip atmosphere. Trendy mumma’s (and we can’t discount the cool dad’s out there too) now have a place to shop to dress their “Mini Me’s” in the latest trends.

When you walk in you can expect to find clothing and items that are quality made, functional but also beautiful. I don't have a child but fell I immediately fell in love with so many pieces. This will be a place I go for my niece and nephew in the future.

The catalyst for the store was the birth of their  Trevor's and Che's daughter Evie, two years ago. Che’s she found that she was spending many hours on instagram and online shopping looking for brands that were fun and unique.

During her shopping adventures she noticed that the brands she loved were not available in Canberra. You either had to purchase online or travel to Sydney.  Fast forward to today and Tip You’re It is offering the very brands Che fell in love with and road tested on little Evie.

Their 18 months of research is evident when you walk into the store and see the variety of items on offer. It's a carefully curated collection of clothing, shoezies and more.

There is more thank what meets the eye in Tip You're It. It caters for babies (newborn size) to early teens (size 12-14) and also offers bedroom furniture and décor.

It's a great store to pop past for unique gifts for  baby showers and even christenings.
One thing I particularly like about the store is that they offer a pop a up space to those smaller designers who have amazing products for kids but are not at the wholesale stage of business. This gives designers a chance to showcase and sell their products to a market they might not have had access to.

Trevor said, “as a new small business we know you need to start somewhere”. Love this supportive mentality.
Custom name night lights available to order

Some of the brands they stock include:

Milk and Masuki, Phoenix and the Fox, Huxbaby, Moi, Beau Hudson, Nununu. Incy Interiors , Leander , Bednest, Hunting for George , Plyroom, Hobbe, Loft Furniture, Armadillo, Kip and Co, Goosebumps, Gather Kids, One in a Melon, Homely Creatures, Bride and Wolfe, Kate and Kate, DAN300 , Knot and Bow, Heico, Tiny and I, Ena and Albert, Gold Frankincense + Myrrh, Lumiere Art and Co .

In Trevor's own words you need to visit Tip You're It , “To be inspired by beautiful, unique pieces for restyling living spaces; to pick up a gorgeous gift for a new bub, a birthday or for mum; for the vibrant Lonsdale Street experience; and hopefully, friendly service.”

Deejay's Fashion Mix -Fashfest 2015

I am a firm believer in expressing yourself. For me I use clothing as a medium. My outfits reflect who I am. Some people have set 'styles' but I guess you could say I have multiple personalities when it comes to dressing. I like to mix it up, depending on how I felt right then, on that day usually 15 minutes before i walk out the door.

Attending Fashfest this year was no different. In my head I had thought yes, I'll plan my outfits. But add moving house to the situation, and my my general electric nature planning didn't really work for me.

The results... well see them below. I dressed for who I felt like being on the day. They may be different in styles but all reflect a part of me.

Love or hate it, I think life is too short not to have fun with fashion.

Day one:
I had an aim of wearing a neutral pallet paired with clean lines.

Outfit breakdown
Jacket: Finders Keepers
Dress: Zara
Necklace: Bcbg Max Azaria
Clutch: Vintage (pom poms created by our Jan!)
Shoes: Windsor Smith

Image courtesy of out in canberra. Shot with my ladies Sophie and Jan.

Day two:
I went for a complete flip on Wednesday's outfit and dressed to my urban nature. Nothing like a long line mens tee, leather and boots paired with my favourite beanie and netting.

Outfit breakdown
Beanie: Made by me
Top: Men's tee bought online
Skirt: Finders Keepers
Waist tie shirt: Cotton on
Boots: Tony Bianco

Day three:
Day three saw me continue with my urban vibe. I wore the jeans that I made (some could say i got scissor happy with them) with my CK's and a K pop jacket that I bought in summer. I remember buying the jacket thinking why am I getting this in summer, well because it was awesome that is why! So happy I got it.

Outfit breakdown
Jacket: Big Bang Jacket (somewhere from Sydney)
Top: H&M
Jeans: Vintage custom cut
Heels: Guess
Bag: Collette

Having fun with my signature mowhak

Day four:
Nothing like a killer pair of palazzo pants. I went for a 70s feel with a touch of rocker chick. The cold was a perfect excuse for my leather jacket.
Outfit breakdown
Jacket: Target
Top: Valley Girl
Necklace: Adorne
Pants: Zara
Bag: Marc Jacobs

Style Stalker #Fashfest - Miss Matchy

Thursday throwback to Fashfest!

I spotted from a mile away this perfectly put together outfit by Francesca Droulias.

I fell in love with her at first sight. I know she is a stylist but a stylist can appreciate another stylists work! I love the miss-matchy, matching shapes and colours. With just the right balance of white.

Can you believe this skirt is from Valley Girl? Her style shows that you don't have to spend a load of money to look like a million bucks. You just have to find the right pieces and mix them.

The face masks

If you’re anything like me, the idea of rugging up in your jammies with a bowl of popcorn and watching Disney while your face is covered in some magical goo, is still as appealing as it was when you were a teen. But for most women, finding the time and money to pamper yourself with an expensive face mask is just not always possible. In this day and age (and by age I mean mine… the inevitable almost-30!) we are plagued with financial priorities, frequently time-poor, and forever drawing nearer to the furniture buying, baby making phase of our lives. (Seriously, how did that happen? I swear I was 17, like, yesterday). This can make it hard to find time and room in the budget for our skin - a part of our health regimen that should be a priority – particularly as we mature in our ageless beauty.

I am constantly searching for (and purchasing, much to the dismay of my significant other) beautiful new products to try at home. When I do go on the hunt I like to take my time, do the research, and really educate myself about ingredients and how they might work for my skin. And since I am forever being asked by fellow gal-pals what products I am using and why, I figured I may as well share some of my findings with you too. I’ve done the leg work for you, and included a range of products varying in price – from lux to budget-friendly. With huge thanks to the ladies at Mecca Cosmetica in the Canberra Centre for answering all of my questions!

My Tips
Before you shop, try doing a simple self-assessment. I promise it will save you time, and help you to shop with confidence!

1. What kind of skin do I have? Know the skin you’re in - are you oily/dry/combination?
2. Do I have any skin allergies? Make sure you keep in mind any allergies
or sensitivities. You cannot hide your face if something goes wrong - so this is a very important step in avoiding a ‘Samantha Situation’ (do we not all remember that SATC episode where Samantha’s face all but peeled off?? Cringe!)
3. What do I want to get out of this treatment? What are the results you are looking for? Hydration/Detoxification/Smooth skin?
4. How much do I want to spend? Don’t be shy of setting limits for yourself. Letting the staff know how much you’re willing to spend will help them guide you to products within YOUR budget.

Fashfest Style Stalker - Boots 'n the fur

Outfit breakdown:
Coat: Zara
Dress Alexander Wang
Booties: Nine west

At Fashfest on Saturday night I stopped Tash Lieschke on the red carpet as she was wearing two of my favourites things fur  and leopard print.

Tash likes to wear classic items mixing with a bit of fun as illustrated by her outfit above. Her favourite place to shop is Saba but she has a soft spot for shoes. If she was able to choose an unlimited gift voucher to any store it would be to Jimmy Choo. For a girl can never have to many shoes!

Style Stalker - #Fashfest Bling Universe

For Fashfest so many people played it safe and wore black. Don't get me wrong black is always elegant and easy to wear. But when I was doing some style stalking I wanted to see people push the envelope a little further.

That's when I came across Holly on Saturday night. She was wearing some serious bling from head to toe. This Canberra born fashionista now lives in Melbourne and works Discount Universe.

Discount Universe is an Australian label that is edgy and all hand beaded. Something I can definitely appreciate. Holly I loved your style keep rockin' the bling.
