Keep a look out for the mule

Seeing these pretties come back in a chic, slim and flattering way makes me even happier than a chubby kid, eating his weight in chocolate. We say, don't be afraid to rock these mules in the office! Pair these with a super feminine midi-length skirts, or some printed tailored pants. This shoe style is the best alternative to the classic pump. If you want to update your looks, pic a pair of these up. I'm in love with some of these styles that are currently only available oversea's, but I'm sure in a couple of weeks they will flood the stores of ACT.

Winter white

I purchased this crisp white coat with leather detailing from ZARA late last year and it since has  become my number one winter staple. The chic 60's mod style is balanced perfectly with the leather detailing and the length enhances its versatility and doesn't outweigh my height. I couple of seasons ago I would have been reluctant to match leather on leather but I simply have way too many leather pieces in my wardrobe to avoid it and I am now finding myself embracing the combination. SP x

These leather pants add detail and the heeled cut-off boots would easily take this outfit from day to night.

My Bardot knit softens the whole outfit and breaks up the black and white palette.

Date with Kate: Miss World ACT

Kate Goodwin, local model and 2013 winner of the Myer Face of Canberra Racing was crowned Miss World ACT on July 27 at Oaks Cypress Lakes which led her to participate in the Miss World Australia national finals held in the Hunter Valley. The brunette beauty is committed to using her title as Miss World ACT  to make a difference and raise much needed awareness and funds for local charities. TFV sat down with Kate and caught up on her experience of the Miss World competition and her plans for the near future. SP

Miss World commenced in the early 50s initially as a bikini contest and is known as the oldest surviving international beauty pageant. What enticed you to enter the Miss World competition and what did you hope to gain out of the experience?

Before exploring the internet and realising the wonderful charitable work that MWA does, my initial enticement to apply was to further my career in modelling. MWA is a search for a young woman to serve as an ambassador to charity, enrich the perception of beauty, and enhance a new strength, energy and spirit for the advancement of women, while positively impacting their communities. So what I didn’t realise is that the pageant would allow me to fulfil my philanthropic goals of helping to those in need.

The pageant introduced the challenge event ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ in 2005 and consequently gained the reputation of not only meriting it’s finalists for their beauty but for their humanitarian spirit and involvement with charity work. In your experience did the contestants embody these qualities? What actions did you take to prepare for the challenge?

Having met only a few of the girls from the pageant prior to the national finals, I had a high expectation of the level of beauty, talent and intelligence. Those expectations were blown out of the water! From fundraising for the Beauty with a Purpose section to smashing the 2.5hr Chinese Fitness Endurance course, these girls absolutely amazed me.

MWA is not like any other pageant held with Australia. Over 4 days you are judged by sections including talent, fitness, multimedia, modelling infamous swimwear bikinis, interviews, runway and Q&A. In the weeks leading up to nationals I exercised more, ate healthier, practiced my talent and walking in heels (OUCH!). It also gave me the opportunity to fundraise for Variety – the Children’s Charity so I was busy organising events to do so where I ended up raising $8,000. Preparation also included 2 days of workshops ran by the incredible Peter Sereno of Dear Pageant Girl (again, A LOT of walking in heels).

Congratulations on taking out the title of Miss World ACT. How are you planning to make the most of your current title? I am the first EVER Miss World ACT which gives me the opportunity to really show Canberra what Miss World Australia queens can do. My main focus will be to represent our fantastic state through a range of charity and media events, locally and nationally and to help others within our community. It is an extraordinary thing to have the love and support of the other state queens, our MWA queen Courtney Thorpe and the MWA team so I’m sure that you won’t see anything short of great from me this year.

TFV loves style! How did you prepare to ensure you were immaculately styled for the pageant runway? We were extremely spoilt and fortunate enough to have our evening gowns styled and sponsored by Bellucio, cocktail dress by Kristine B, sunglasses by Festival Sunglasses and two pairs of uggboots by Shearers Ugg (one pair were heels of course).

As for cosmetics Ciccone, Ardell lashes, Ardrea Hair Removal, Smash It and Naked Tan had all the girls looking and feeling AMAZING!

We can't wait to see more of Kate's modelling work! To keep up to date with Kate follow her on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/KateGoodwinModel & Instagram @kategoodwinn

I have been wearing to death my Witchery black dress and layering it up with my Hampton style tops. I feel like, wearing a blazer on the shoulders is a great look as well, everyone has been as wearing their coats on their shoulders so why not model your blazer?!
