Boots and the fur...

Black, fur, bones, studs and chains. I think out of the three of us these items are most likely to be found in in my wardrobe.

With the subzero temperatures soon to depart I am taking advantage of my faux furs, leather and black palate while I can.

However, when I do head to toe black I'm big on texture.

Here I've paired the fur with my favourite leather pants and some statement or "goth" style skeleton booties.

This look is also broken up with some stud accents and layers of jewellery and of course a statement clutch.

Life is too short not to push the limits.

Outfit breakdown:
  • Jacket - Bebe Sydney
  • Top - Zara
  • Pants - Sass and Bide
  • Boots - NYC
  • Bag - Tempt
  • Rings  - Lovisa

Polimoda, fashion, communications student

During my travels and studies in Florence, I have been keeping an eye out for the trend setters of this beautiful, historic city. I found Danish, Polimoda fashion student, Anja Ancker exploring on the many famous streets in Florence. Being in a international city means, I'm exposed to a diverse range of fashion labels. I had totally forgotten, my love for American Apparel. Which means I can buy these shorts online and they will be waiting for me for when I get home. Get this, ready for spring! I love it and I love online shopping.

Payday Prints

Hoorah it is pay day today. What am I spending my hard earned cash on... matching prints of course. This outfit to me is something that is both stylish but most importantly comfy.

If I can look some what fashionable in a tracksuit style jumper, I am all for it.

Wear this with the matching skirt (or pants if i will admit I have the matching pair.) Or simply wear this versatile jumper with jeans or your favourite leather pants. Canberra is cold so investing in some great jumpers is key to surviving here.

I purchased both this skirt and top form my store Alice Be Curious.

What are your thoughts? Do you like matching prints?

Outfit breakdown:

  • Top - Finders Keepers
  • Necklace - J Crew
  • Skirt - Finders Keepers
  • Bag - Alice be curious

Beauty insider: How to combat dry skin in winter

The team at Gloww Beauty tell us how to combat winter skin and which products will keep your skin lush and supple. SP xo

Our skin needs a balance of oil and water to be healthy. For a skin that is lacking in oil and is dry it’s important to exfoliate before applying a moisturiser to allow it to penetrate deeper into the layers of the skin and help to re-balance. At Gloww Beauty we use asap skin care. To exfoliate we recommend asap ‘Daily Exfoliating Facial Scrub’. This amazing scrub contains AHA’s and is formulated to improve the skins texture and appearance.
To restore moisture use asap ‘ultimate hydration’, with Niacinamide and Hydrasalinol which will help to hydrate and repair the skin.
To help hydration drink plenty of water and use asap ‘Moisturising Daily Defence’. This is packed with antioxidants and added benefits of an SPF 30 and UVB which will replenish your skin's essential moisture and act as protection. asap has an impressive range of simple, affordable and effective skincare solutions to suit every skin type.

Street style in Florence

While the girls are being super stylist back home in Australia. I went out on a photo mission to find some ultra cool street style in Florence, here's who I found. You have got to love this street style pic! Clara Vince from Germany puts together a cool and comfortable look. We couldn't really understand each other, due to the language barrier but as soon as I showed her my camera and Polimoda school bag, she was in! Who says you can't look hip and be comfortable at the same time when your exploring the streets of Florence?!

Fingerless fur gloves

I don't know what has come over me, but lately I have been completely fanatical about black! Yes, I know wearing black is everyone's obsession BUT if you don't know me. I wear colour! Crazy patterns and explosive colours. Best thing about winter fashion, the accessories, from pom pom beanies, to fingerless fur gloves and trimmed scarves.
We all know that adding accessories are an easy extension to your own personal expression. For this look I started with the gloves then dressed around them. I found them in a little hole in the wall store in Sydney. I knew they wouldn't completely keep my hands warm but I knew they would bring a bit texture to any outfit. The more layers the better I say just as long as you don't choose a knit that makes you bulky. Find one that has thin, tight fibres that way, you will always look your best.

The leather midi

I have been raving about the midi hemline since it hit the global fashion scene a couple of seasons ago and was endorsed by the only and only Dior in 2013. To my delight the midi hemline hit our shores last season and is going strong in corporate wear, after 5, casual chic and for the red carpet. I have invested in three different pieces sporting my fave hemline including this ZARA leather-look skirt which I know will remain a classic in my wardrobe season after season. SP xo

Since I am a vertically challenged I always wear a heel with this skirt and love teaming it up with these MARCS suede points. Even though they have an ankle strap, the pointed toe helps elongate and keep me in proportion.

For this day look I chucked on a staple white t-shirt from Parliament Clothing and added a pop of colour with my Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Percy bag. Other accessories by Lovisa and sunglasses by Mink Pink.

Timberlands and Plaid

Timberlands + plaid to me just seems like a natural partnership. I’ve only recently invested in the boots and perfect timing for Canberra's freezing weather.

My obsession with Timberlands stems way back, to when I was in about year 5. I killed my parents life by dragging them around the stores to find a pair of Catepillars (close enough to Timberlands) because I needed to complete my tencel jeans outfit with the right pair of boots.

Fast forward to today and my love affair continues. When purchasing these boots I actually went down a size and a half. I normally wear a women’s size 8 in AU but got these in a size 6.5.

Having worked in shoe stores for over 6 years I can’t stress enough the need to water and stain protect your shoes girls,  especially when they are a light coloured suede like these.

Now back to this outfit, it features some of my favourite wardrobe staples, chunky menswatch, statement jewellery, leather and boots.

These leather pants are proving to be an investment. I still remember going into Sass and Bide three times over two days to make sure I needed them (well justifying to myself why I had to have them).

After parting with a large chunk of my pay I walked away happy as I knew I would be wearing these over and over again.

If you are going to spend on big ticket items take the time to review the versatility of the piece. Ask yourself
  • Is this something that will date?
  • What else can I wear it with?
  • Wear can I wear it too?
  • Is the item made from quality fabric?
No point in spending big if you can only wear it to one type of event or it falls apart after the first wear.

Hustle and bustle

While Janette is of browsing the markets in Italy Sofia and I had to do the next best thing… visit the Hustle and Scout market in New Acton, Canberra.

Despite today only being 7 degrees accompanied by a chilling wind,  the masses were not deterred from flocking to the markets.

I think this was the busiest Hustle and Scout market to date.  It was good to see a mixture of local designers and vintage stall holders.

Below is a collection of some of our favorite things.

It pays to look at your feet sometimes. Check out this cute stall floor.

Jewellery by Trudy from  9 Lives. Hand made in her studio in Alexandria, NSW. Her latest collection is called Dutchess taking inspiration from royal emblems and symbols.

The 'drape'

It seems as though the only way to wear your winter coat this season is over your shoulders. By simply draping your favourite winter coats or blazers over your shoulders you will instantly turn your outfit from ordinary to fab. This simple style technique will allow you to show off the details of your outfit which would normally be covered up with a buttoned up coat or a zipped up jacket. Finish off with a chunky-knit scarf for day or layered necklaces for evening.

More than just nails

What your seeing right now is an artist who can recreate anything she's sees. The 'lets play a nail game 'artists is a nail polish addict! I thought, I loved nails but Lucrezia, takes it to a whole other level. From mirror effect, sand style, holographic and chrome - you name it she's got it.

I had no idea there was that there where that many different kinds of polishes. Lucrezia discovered she loved nails about three years ago, she started buying nail supplies and kept in mind the beauty and perfection of Tartofraises' creations, who would define her nail muse. She now lives in the wonderful colourful world of nail art.

Lucrezia loves to buy sand style polishes by P2 (cheap and awesome quality and good lasting) and creme colours by Laya (great pigmentation). Lucrezia loves to recreate other peoples designs and puts her own twist to it. She finds it interesting and challenging the more intricate the detail is and is always up for the challenge. She loves satisfaction of a job well done.
