2014 Women of style, our faves for the evening

What a stylish night! from Miranda to Sass&Bide. We found our top picks that inspire us for our next attending event. We think clean, minimal with either a touch of leather or hint colour. I'm simply in lust with the little details on Sarah-Jane's embellished top, I have the 'I want it now' feeling. Lets face it, you simply can't go wrong in either black or white or BOTH!

the Instyle Awards were created to celebrate Australia's most inspirational women. The definition of a Woman of Style is: She's an innovator and a leader, has made a significant contribution to her profession, is actively involved in the community and operates with integrity and compassion. She's a mentor to those who follow in her footsteps and is intelligent and engaging.

Congratulations to the winners of the sixth annual InStyle and Audi Women of Style Awards, announced in Sydney on May 21. The awards were held at the Hordern Pavilion and was hosted by Melissa Doyle featuring Jessica Mauboy performing "Never Be The Same".
300 lucky guests celebrated with Piper-Heidsieck champagne, and took home gift bags worth over $1,500 that included a Nespresso Inissia machine, a Waterford Crystal candle, Oroton sunglasses and a Bobbi Brown beauty pack.

All eyes on Blake

Blake Lively well and truly stepped out of honeymoon hibernation and onto red carpet heaven. All eyes were on her red carpet choices for the annual Cannes International Film Festival. Each look was impeccably styled and polished showcasing three completely different looks - sexy, ladylike elegance and 50's hollywood glamour. We at TFV are obsessing over all three! Which one is your fave?

Day 1 - Gucci Premiere
Day 2 - Chanel Couture

Designer spotlight: Reneira

Reneira sure made an impression at the opening night of Fashfest 2014 by showcasing a diverse and cohesive collection which left us wanting more. Each piece was beautifully constructed in a mix of textures including lace and a unique print. TFV spoke to sister-duo Danielle and Taliya Blom who are behind the newly founded label.

There are so many brilliant established and talented Australian designers making their mark in the fashion industry globally. What do you hope your label will bring to the industry? Are you targeting a niche market?
We take pride in knowing that we have the opportunity to be a part of the growing fashion industry in Australia. Reneira provides runway worthy looks that can easily transcend into everyday life. I think a lot of times young women shy away from “designer labels” in fear that the look will be too conceptual. Our clothes are designed to appeal to a wide range of women whilst still providing an opportunity to promote individuality.

What excites you about the collection you chose to showcase at Fashfest on opening night? Which is your favourite piece from the collection and why?

What is your aesthetic and who is your ideal 'Reneira' girl?
Our aesthetic is sophisticated, feminine and edgy. The ideal ‘Reneira’ girl likes to dress it up, has a bit of an edge, is fashion conscious, but takes pride in individual style.

The fashion industry can bring many successes and challenges. What advice would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own fashion label?
Figure out what your aesthetic is, who you are designing for and focus on what makes you unique from everybody else.

It was exciting to see our collection on the catwalk. We have never done a runway before and had no preconceptions about what to expect. We also took delight in witnessing the reception from audience members in regards to individual pieces and the aesthetic of the collection. Our favorite piece is the outfit that our first model Courtney wore. It’s a black blazer with our unique hand dyed printed lining covering a lace crop. Paired with cotton pants also made out of our hand dyed print. I think that this look sums up Reneira quite well. We incorporated femininity through the lace crop, edge through the hand dyed printed pants and then made the look versatile and wearable by adding a blazer.

And finally what is next for 'Reneira?
We hope to continue developing our label and expand our reach to a wider market.  We also hope to expand our collaborations and connections and become more immersed in the Canberra fashion industry.

Take us back to Fashfest

How sad, almost a week since Fashfest. Before we are ready to let go lets check out some fashionable women from the  opening night.
Debbie looked playful in her jumpsuit from a little boutique in Sydney.
Designer Rachel from label Little Jane Lane looked ever so sweet in a dress by her label. Rachel mentioned she is inspired by tea parties and loves a feminine touch.

Jessica looked stylish in monochrome and said you can’t go past Cue for a great garment. We agree with that comment all the way.

Laure gets it right in hounds-tooth! Get this look from Zara.

Blogger Georgia from Red Magpie shows us the right way to wear a crop. Her jumper is by local designer WND.LND

Eye for detail. Tasma wears dress by Zara. We assume the Zara designers were inspired by Kenzo.

Opening night @Fashfest 2014

I had such a fantastic night at Canberra's very own fashion festival, Fashfest. It's a great opportunity for fashion designers to show case their latest collections. Over four night's Fashfest, has hundred's of people coming in and out of the Canberra airport doors. Everyone in the industry was there, models, designers, stylists, artists, photographers, viewer's, journalist, you name it and they were there. From the moment I walked in the entrance and saw the flashing lights, I was in fashion heaven.

First stop was at the media wall, I pulled out all my posing moves and try to work it! Then straight to the fancy Moet and Chandon VIP bar to do a quick Instagram post of my outfit.
So many beautiful people around me - the place was buzzing. A gentle announcement aware us that the show is about to commence so I slowly float to my seat.

The show begins and I'm in total awe, live music is played during the entire show. One of my favourite designers of the night was Hanny-d, she uses materials from curtains and upholstery and recreates them in to wearable pieces - the perfect colour pallet, orange and pink - love. Another one was Tuffys & Tuffetts, it's a wholly Australian-owned company bringing real Aussie underwear back to Aussie backsides. It wasn't too bad on the eyes either ;)
In the corner of my eye I saw a group on Canberra's finest. Jiawa Liu (blogger), me, Zoe Brown (Designer) and Heather Lansdowne (blogger) I had to have a piccie with them!
Ooh and there, the face of Fashfest, Belinda Riding. I spot a few carefully styled people and admire their pieces, up close with my camera.

It was the 2nd year for Fasfest and the event blew me away. I recommend the event to all you readers around Australia to come next year! Mingle with us, listen to musicians and watch Canberra's finest designers put on a show.
