YSL and black on black

You can't go wrong with black on black as it creates a perfect base to make a statement with high end accessories.

Martina wears Portmans cape, Top Shop jeans, Jimmy Choo points, Peter Lang bracelet, Gucci watch and Yves Saint Laurent bag from Net-A-Porter.

Line of sight

Need some new eye makeup inspiration? Take note from the spring'15 catwalks from Fendi and Dior. Peter Philips achieves the below looks by using snippets of leather and using eyelash glue to adhere it to the models lids.
For a simpler method at home use coloured eyeliners and go for a bold thick line, keeping lips and the rest of your makeup to a minimum.
Can't find a eye liner colour that you like, but have an eye shadow that you love? Check out Napoleon Cake Eyeliner sealer ($22) which can turn any eyeshadow into an eyeliner. Perfect.

To culotte, or not?

We say yes!!
These culottes seem to be everywhere at the moment and the verdict is, we love em'! They are perfect for Summer! They are light in fabric and breathe well. I wore them to the office and no one looked twice - so that means they aren't too outrageous for work. I sure wouldn't wear a crop top though, that's taking it bit too far - I have seen it though (I know shock horror).
Anyway, my point is if you have somewhere to go after work and you have these culottes on, pack a fantastic top with a couple of statement necklaces and off you go, to your next meeting (wink, wink). I got these from Bardot and they have them in white too, black for night and white for day.

Tis the season for weddings

Coming from an ethnic family I swear I've gone to so many weddings I've actually lost count. I almost don't believe it when people tell me they've never been to a wedding before.

Spring/summer is usually peak season for my family to get hitched and this year hasn't been any different.

Weddings are a time to hang with family and friends, bond over food and drinks and an excuse to wear pretty things. With our culture we tent to wear one outfit to the ceremony and change for reception (and you wonder why I had a shopping addiction early on).

This however can pose a few challenges. How do you dress for your own style criteria and meet your Baba's (grandma's) expectations of what is ok to be worn in church.

This weekend I went to a dear friends wedding in Canberra and decided to get my lady on for church. As you all know I am fond of colour and pattern clashing.

This skirt makes me feel like I'm in the Sex in the City movie, the scene at the Dubai markets. Who else could pull of a taffeta skirt to the markets.

I actually road tested mine at the Belconnen markets. Sure it wasn't Dubai but it still had spices does that count? Why was I there you ask? Well me and my husband were hungry so we did a pitt stop in-between the ceremony and reception. I must say I did get some interesting looks from the shoppers, don't think this look will make it to the markets any time soon.

A-line skirts with crop tops to me are just an elegant combination, and they're to to racy thus satisfying any ethnic traditions.

Of course this post wouldn't happen if it wasn't for Kevin Landale our photographer.

Casual Friday

Does anyone else feel like this week went on forever? Thank god the weekend is here. So what are you all doing over the weekend? Our lucky Sofia is getting married. She is going to make a fashionable bride for sure! We can't wait to see the pics.

For me Friday is a day to chill, relax and dress accordingly. I may look like I'm from the 80s but why not?

Happy friday all.  Wishing you a fab weekend.

Fresh Prince Styling

The city is fast becoming a great source for man swag! We spotted Maty Saks heading to Friday after work drinks looking fresh.

A true multi-tasker Maty is a public servant by day, part-time personal trainer for Detox Fitness and a DJ by night. With such a busy schedule it's clear that his ability to dress well must come naturally.

His style echoes the old school hip hop and RnB tracks he is known for mixing. This carefully curated outfit is a modern take on the styling's of Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

We love Maty's hands on approach as well.  He couldn't find a vest to suit his style so he ended up cutting off the sleeves of a long sleeved shirt.

Outfit breakdown:
Gucci sunglasses
Nike Cap
G-Shock watch
Chicago bulls jersey
David and Goliath altered vest

Man swag

Hoorah! Just wanted to take a moment to praise all the men out there who are making an effort with what they wear. I swear, in recent years men's styling has improved significantly in Canberra.

No longer do we have to go to Sydney or Melbourne to find a man who wears something with a bit of style and edge.

Nothing like seeing a well dressed man who has the confidence to match. Keep up the good work guys so we can stalk your style!

The 2014 Marque event, Melbourne Cup at Albert Hall

The inaugural Marque event was a hit at Canberra's iconic Albert Hall. There was a flowing Peroni bar and oyster bar. Getting dressed up for the Melbourne Cup is my fave, Melbourne Cup 'fashions on the field' competitions are always a little more colourful, daring and creative, which I adore. Dominic Kelly, the husband of fashion socialite Sarah Kelly and I were invited to host and judge the 'fashions in the hall' competition. We had to look twice at some of the outfits we had seen as they were top notch!

Me and Dominic getting ready to choose the winners for the Marque's 'fashions in the hall'.

We found some gorgeously dressed men and women on the day, most of them had head-to-toe looks. We saw a solid, sterling sliver clutch and handmade, floral head pieces, see below our favourites from the day.
Winner of 'fashions in the hall' Nicola Powell in a Karen Miller dress and yellow straw hat by LOCOPA designs.
Robbie Kahlil rocking this skull head walking stick
Kelly Fossati wearing a Flannel dress by a WA designer.
This one was one of my faves on the day, Karen Coe wearing, Veronica Maine she designed and made her own head piece.
Canberra property mogul, Richard Lutton in a Gucci suit and Tom Ford suit.

Looking forward to next year's event! Thank you to the Marque, you were on point.

Oaks Day Style

We love Alice's race wear look for Oaks Day in Melbourne. Alice made a bold statement with a feature head piece which is what race wear is all about. The spectacular headpiece was complimented perfectly by Alice's outfit.

Alice wore millinery by Cynthia Jones-Bryson, dress by Alex Perry, shoes and bag by ASOS

On Saturday 1 November Melbourne hosted Derby Day as part of the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival. For some, Derby Day is considered the most prestigious racing day of the year and this was certainly evident in the fashions and style seen on the day. The traditional black and white dress code paved the way for sophistication and on trend style.

I kept my look sophisticated and understated as I wanted my hat to be the feature and for my outfit to compliment my hat rather than over power it.

I am wearing an amazing Biretta and Busby bespoke hat, Top Shop jumpsuit,  the perfect race wear shoe from Myer, silk clutch from by Pineda Covalin, earrings from Witchery, hair by UVA salon in Paharan and makeup by the amazing Merton Muaremi.

I managed to capture some of my favourite looks and beautiful people spotted at the G.H. Mumm marquee.

Kate - founder and creative director of Elliatt looked amazing and was an absolute stand out in the Elliatt Queens Dress and Expedition cape and hat she put together herself.

Martina wears head piece by Viktoria Novak top and skirt by Roland Mouret, Tony Bianco Shoes, Peter Lang bangle and YSL bag.

Kym Johnson also wears Viktoria Novak headpiece Manning Cartel dress and Scanlan and Theodore jacket.

Carla wears hat from Top Shop, curved cropped top by shieke, split skirt by Misha Collection, bag by Mulberry and shoes by Tony Bianco.

This custom made stunning head piece was previously worn by Lady Gaga.

Terry Biviano turned heads in a gorgeous Carla Zampatti dress, Prada eye wear and of course Terry Biviano shoes.

The boys from the Block were looking the part.

Fiona (second from the right) looked chic and sophisticated in a Witchery hat, top by Kookai, skirt by Country Road and Wittner shoes.
